Sneak preview at the library Jan. 19

See a sneak preview of the Des Moines Community Playhouse production of “The Hundred Dresses” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.

This charming story about being kind and standing up to bullying is based on the book by Eleanor Estes. Come and enjoy the performance and sign up to win free tickets to the play.

Free Advice for Your Device

Bring your mobile device (smartphone, tablet or e-reader) to get advice and help installing the library’s apps for e-books, downloadable audiobooks and e-magazines. The class and apps are all free. Your gadget must have basic setup done (out of the box, set up, passwords entered, charged and know the basics) as a prerequisite to this class. You will need your library card and PIN, and you may need the password for your App Store on your device. Pre-register.

Furry Tales
Saturday, Jan. 4, 11 a.m.
Stop by the library to sign up for a 10-minute slot to read a favorite story to therapy dog Scout. Sharing stories with Scout is a fantastic way to practice reading skills and make a furry friend, too.

Afternoon Book Discussion
Monday, Jan. 6, 1 p.m.
We will be discussing “Annie’s Ghosts” by Steve Luxenberg. Copies of the book are available at the information desk.

Monday, Jan. 6, 4 p.m.
Teens can come and volunteer their time to help out with various library projects. Please stop by the library for an application form and have it signed by a parent or guardian prior to your first meeting.

Pizza and Pages
Monday, Jan. 13, 4 p.m.
Sixth through 12th graders can visit the library and eat pizza while talking about the sci-fi thriller “Found” by Margaret Peterson Haddix. You can find copies of the book and sign up for this program at the information desk.

Beginnings Music for Children
Monday, Jan. 13, 6:30 p.m.
Join Barb Klubal from the Iowa Youth Chorus’ Beginnings Early Childhood Music Program for singing, dancing and instrument playing. For children 3-6, preregister.
