Pleasant Hill has exciting 2013

Posted December 25, 2013 in Community Featured, Pleasant Hill

It is so hard to believe that one year ago I was getting ready to start my term as Chamber president, hoping I would spend the upcoming year trying to positively impact our membership and community.

As I look back now, I am amazed by the level of generosity and dedication that has been displayed throughout the year by our board and our members. They have worked relentlessly in order to benefit and support the businesses, community and the city of Pleasant Hill. I could not be more proud of what they have accomplished.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Chamber Executive Director Cathy Jensen for her hard work making this year so successful. Cathy is truly the backbone of our Chamber and responsible for making this year an unprecedented success. Along with Cass Edwards, the two of them have surpassed every goal we have set for them. I cannot wait to see what kind of amazing feats we will pull together next year.

I would also like to thank our board members Holly Bernal, Brooke Pulliam, Tim Hummel, Christina Anderson, Jessica Berg, Marta McCauley,  Jill Meyer, Randy Meiners, Karl Ritland and Pennie Carroll. I was fortunate to have a very passionate board this year.  It was always fun to see a little idea blossom into a brand-new full-fledged event like our Family Movie Night. Or to see them all pitch in to make this our most successful year yet for Chill on the Hill. I cannot thank them enough for their support and dedication. They made this a great year and a fantastic opportunity for me.

As long as we are talking about opportunity, 2014 will be bigger and better than ever. Chill on the Hill will be back for its sixth season, as well as our annual golf outing and our second annual Family Movie Night. I am also very excited to say we will be fortunate enough to host a night of Jazz in July, a metro-wide family and community-based musical event. Jazz in July features local musicians as well as national acts with ties to Iowa. This is once again a fantastic event for our community. The way it sounds to me, this is a great opportunity for all of our members to get involved.

Initially I thought the Chamber was a great way to put my business out there, but in reality, it made me more of a part of this community.Between lunch clubs and speaking at ribbon cuttings, I have gotten to know a lot of really great people in Pleasant Hill. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the chamber President for the last year. So much so that we should all do this again next year. So as your 2013 and 2014 Chamber president, we should all have a healthy and prosperous new year. Now Grow. Play. Live.
