Waukee Community Church would like to invite citizens from Waukee and the west side of Des Moines to join them in their upcoming Alpha Ministry. The ministry will allow people to connect — or reconnect — with God with no pressure and at no charge through a series of classes that explore life’s big questions in a non-threatening setting with a group of their peers.
According to Jeff Alexander, leadership development pastor at Waukee Community Church, the congregation recently refined and refocused its mission.
“We aspire to be a group of Christ followers who bring people together to live like, love like and give like Jesus,” he says. Their goal is to transform their city into a loving and serving community that puts others first.
To help them in that effort, the congregation will host a series of gatherings at the church office and event center located at 115 North Warrior Lane beginning in late January. The 10-week course runs from Jan. 26 – April 6 and is being offered free of charge to participants who will meet every Sunday evening from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Each week will begin with a shared group meal to give meeting attendees the opportunity to have a casual conversation and get to know one another. This is followed by an educational video to help them learn more about Christianity and gain a better understanding of their personal relationship with God. Video topics will cover information that will help participants answer and discuss questions such as: Who is God? What is the Bible? How do I pray? After watching the video, all participants break up into smaller groups to discuss the content of the video openly and freely.
