PRAIRIE MEADOWS, Altoona, IA — Soldiers of the Iowa National Guard Company B 248th Aviation Support Battalion currently training in Ft. Hood, Texas, will be arriving tomorrow on a surprise trip back home to Iowa to spend the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays with their families.
Prairie Meadows is honored to provide a chartered bus to transport the 39 Iowa soldiers from Ft. Hood, Texas. The soldiers will arrive back in Iowa in time to spend the holiday season with their families and friends.
“When we heard that these soldiers would have had a difficult time with the financial impact of a trip home for the holidays, we wanted to show our support of the many sacrifices that our military men and women make every day for the United States,” said Prairie Meadows President/CEO Gary Palmer. “In my mind, I don’t think you can give or receive a better gift than to be surrounded by family and friends at the holidays – and especially to these soldiers who will be leaving to serve our great country in just a couple of weeks.”
“The holiday isn’t a holiday without the whole family here and especially with bringing the guys back, it makes the holiday season complete,” said Hali VanVelzen, daughter of one of the deployed soldiers. “We are thrilled that Prairie Meadows has agreed to sponsor the transportation to and from Ft. Hood for our soldiers so they can spend the Christmas holiday with their families before deploying overseas,” stated another family member of a unit soldier.
The soldiers have been apart from their families over the last month while training for their upcoming deployment to Kosovo. Prairie Meadows will also provide return transportation to Ft. Hood, Texas.
