The cling in the window

Posted December 18, 2013 in Community Featured, Grimes

December is the month of the year when Grimes Chamber and Economic Development (GCED) distributes invoices to all of its members asking for their continued membership and investment.  And every year those businesses or organizations must make the decision whether or not to renew their membership. More than 90 percent of the time, they choose to remain a member.

The decision makers at our local businesses become members of Grimes Chamber and Economic Development for any number of reasons. Some join out of a sense of obligation to support their community and their fellow neighboring businesses. Some invest because it will have positive impacts on their business, which is good for the bottom line. Others join because of the many personal relationships that can come out of being part of a great, community oriented organization.

Once the decision to remain a member is made and the bill is paid, the Chamber provides a simple window cling, which allows the member to indicate to their employees, their customers and to the world they are indeed invested members in Grimes Chamber and Economic Development. They are part of a club that is governed by representatives from the membership who are charged with guiding the organization in a manner that provides value to both its investors and to the community in which it resides.

If you are a member, thank you. If you have a relationship with one of these members, you should thank them. Thank them for being part of an ongoing effort to improve the business climate, for creating job opportunities, for providing goods and services, for contributing to the property tax base of the community, and for often sponsoring important community events and initiatives. Together, these businesses improve the quality of life for most everyone associated with our fine community.

The lack of a window cling doesn’t mean a business is not community minded. Indeed, there are good businesses that choose not to join their local Chamber or have simply never been invited. If you represent a business that has never been invited, we apologize, and we want you to know that you would be most welcome.

We here at GCED know our members. We support them whenever we are able, and they provide tremendous support for Grimes Chamber and Economic Development, an organization that strives to improve the community every day.

So the next time you see a Grimes Chamber and Economic Development window cling, you can be confident that you are entering a business or organization that is supportive of you and the community in which you reside.   With that knowledge, we hope you choose to enter those businesses regularly.
