John Norris Lemon, 85, passed away on December 16, 2013, courageously battling Progressive Supranuclear Palsy for the last 5 years.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday December 19, 2013, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home(4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.).
A Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013, also at the funeral home.
John was born September 27, 1928 in Sparta, Illinois to Norine Horschmann Lemon and John Thomas Lemon; he graduated from Monmouth College in 1950; was drafted into the Army soon thereafter, and married Bonita J. Hapke in 1951.
A resident of Ankeny since 1969, John had been an active volunteer locally. He was a former Ankeny City Councilman, President of the Iowa League of Municipalities, a member of Ankeny Presbyterian Church, and a lifelong Mason. He retired from MidAmerican Energy in 1987. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, golf and other sports.
He is survived by his loving family –devoted wife of 62 years, Bonita, daughter Pamela (Michael) Wood of Boca Raton, Florida, son Mark (Judi) of Solon, Iowa, son Scott (Jackie) of Ankeny, and granddaughters Kasey and Whitney Stark, and Christina Lemon.
He was predeceased by his parents and only sister.
