Christopher “Chris” Coppola passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at home. Services will he held on Tuesday, December 17 at 10:30 AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Merle Hay and University in Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, December 16 from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 pm Vigil at Dunn’s Funeral Home, 2121-Grand Avenue, Des Moines.

Christopher was born on August 13, 1957 in Des Moines, the son of Joseph and Peggy Coppola and one of 5 children. He graduated from Dowling High School and attended Drake University. From the time he was a young child to and including this past Columbus Day, as a proud Italian, he attended the Columbus Day celebration and was honored to participate by laying the wreath on the statue. He worked for the family real estate companies, Coppola Properties and Randolph Investment Company.

Christopher touched many lives with his compassion, humor and kindness. He was a friend to many. He was also an avid Hawkeye, Rams, Twins, and Lakers fan and an all around sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed spending fall Saturdays at Kinnick Stadium. He also took great pride in being a former member of the Windsor Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

Christopher was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and his mother, Peggy. He is survived by his wife Kelly, daughters Kelsey, Lauren and Kendra. He is also survived by his sisters Jeanne Coppola of Dyersville, Sandra (Barry)Losh of Clive, Carol (Bill) Mogolov of Clive, and his brother Joe (Cyndy) of Des Moines. He also has four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will dearly miss their “Papa and Uncle Chris”. Also left behind was his favorite four legged friend, his dog “Penny”

Throughout his life, Christopher was a lover of dogs. Emma, Bear, Spike, and Lucy were his “buddies”. In tribute to his love of dogs, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
