Local Grocer Raises Thousands for the Fight against Lung Disease

Posted December 16, 2013 in Community Web Exclusives, Urbandale

URBANDALE, IOWA (December 16, 2013) –Dahl’s Foods donated $5,000 to the American Lung Association in Iowa http://www.lung.org/associations/states/iowa/  to help the fight for healthy lungs and air. The local grocer set aside cash portions of specific items purchased this past fall, adding up to the grand total.
All 13 of Dahl’s Food locations participated in the special fundraising effort. Dahl’s owners and management team recently presented the ‘big’ $5,000 check to the Lung Association at one of their stores. Photo available upon request.

“We’re fortunate to have a local business in Iowa like Dahl’s Foods. They recognize the significance of what it means to have healthy lungs and healthy air, as well as the need for resources in the fight against lung disease. Research is vastly underfunded compared to other diseases, even though lung cancer kills more Americans than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers combined. So we’re very grateful to Dahl’s Foods, as well as the community members and families that shops at their stores and helped raised these funds,” said Micki Sandquist, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Iowa.

The grocer’s efforts also highlighted the Lung Association’s 2013 Fight for Air Walk http://www.lung.org/pledge-events/il/oak-brook-walk-fy14/ held this past September at Principal Park (I-Cubs Ballpark) in Des Moines.
