Opportunities for Student Involvement Abound

Posted December 10, 2013 in Community Blogs

FDSH offers our students many opportunities to be involved in athletics and the arts.  With over 25 school-sanctioned extracurricular activities and 21 athletic teams, there is something for everyone!  Currently, our middle and high school winter sports are in full swing and our winter music concerts are also taking place.

Upcoming athletic events include the JV wrestling dual on Saturday, December 14th and the Don Miller wrestling invitational on Saturday, December 21st.  The basketball teams at the middle and high school are off to promising starts and are sure to bring excitement each and every time they compete.  Our boys swimming team and bowling teams are also getting started.  You can always find our middle and high school athletic schedules at www.fortdodgesports.org.

If you are in the mood for some holiday music, check our website at www.fdschools.org, for a list of school concerts at all grade levels.  We invite you to the FDSH holiday concert Sunday, December 15th,  at 2 p.m. in the FDSH gym.  This concert will showcase the orchestra, symphonic band, wind ensemble, women’s chorale, Dodger men’s chorus, Vox Femina and the A Cappella Choir.  It’s sure to be an afternoon of great entertainment.  Admission will be $3/adult and $1/student.  Activity passes will be accepted.

In addition, our students are getting involved this holiday season by finding ways to give back to our community.  The middle school students have 2 angel trees in their lobby, conducted a Combat Hunger food drive and are providing Christmas care packages for soldiers.  Elementary students are helping Almost Home animal shelter, ringing bells for the Salvation Army and collecting nonperishables for our local food pantries and shelters.  Students at the high school can participate in the National Honor Society’s blood drive later this month, collected food items, and also have 2 giving trees in the cafeteria.  In addition, the sophomore Dodger Times are all conducting a service learning day on December 11th.

Take some time this holiday season to come out and support our students. The talent level of our kids is tremendous and we know you’ll enjoy the event you attend.  Go Dodgers!
