Mary was born in Harskut, Hungary and immigrated to the United States with her parents and youngest sister in 1952, sailing from Hamburg, Germany to New York aboard a Liberty Ship. Mary graduated from Assumption High School in Granger and was married to Loe Anthony Nizzi in 1957. Mary farmed side by side with her husband until his death on June 16, 1997. Mary enjoyed crocheting, gardening vegetables and flowers and cooking for her family. One of Mary’s greatest joys was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Lloyd (Linda) Nizzi and Dan (Jill) Nizzi both of Granger; sister, Erika (Dennis) Caruthers of Urbandale; four grandchildren, Jessica Reinking, Dan Crystal, Andy Nizzi and Kristine Nizzi; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ava and Maya; and her sisters-in-law and fifteen nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Loe; parents, Stefan and Maria (Farkas) Hudi; brother, Steve Hudi; sister, Anna Knolmayer; and nephew, Hal Knolmayer.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, at Assumption Catholic Church, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.
