I would like to begin this post by congratulating Ames Living Magazine on their inaugural issue. The publishers of the magazine promise an exciting monthly publication focused on the great things happening here in Ames. We’re happy to welcome them to the Ames community and also welcome them to the Ames Chamber of Commerce as new members. We look forward to their product reaching the people of Ames each month.
The Chamber is Moving Downtown
The new Chamber office, located at 304 Main Street in downtown Ames, has been undergoing renovation and will soon be completed. The Chamber team is excited to begin packing up for the move and the office at 304 Main will fully operational by the first of 2014. Haila Architecture Structure Planning has done a masterful job in designing the new space to fit our needs. Building owner, Ron McMillen – owner of the Sigler Companies here in Ames, has been great to work with as have our contractors Harold Pike Construction, Converse Conditioned Air, Nelson Electric, Alfred’s Flooring, Storey Kenworthy, Total Home Technology, Heartland Technology Services, Access Systems, Stan Miller Painting, and Watson Plumbing. Each of these great Ames companies has done exceptional work and I know we are going to be thrilled with the finished product. They are all members of the Chamber and many of them also support our affiliate groups as well!
The purpose of our move was multi-faceted. First, the board of directors of the Chamber and our affiliate entities (Ames Economic Development Commission, Ames Seed Capital Fund, Main Street Cultural District, and Young Professionals of Ames) felt the need to locate in the heart of Ames – our central business district. Our investment will hopefully stimulate additional development and reinvestment in downtown Ames. Affiliate Campustown Action Association will remain in Campustown but the new space downtown will be open for their needs as they deem it necessary.
Secondly, we felt it was important to have all of these entities under one roof. The staff members of the aforementioned groups work collaboratively all the time so bringing everyone together makes sense.
Look for an update soon on an open house on our new facility. I am confident that this new venue will be a place our staff–and equally important–our members, will be proud to use to enhance their business.
Shop Ames Grow Ames!
I would also be remiss at this time of year if I did not urge those that see this post to shop our array of local businesses. Shop Ames, Grow Ames! This is an ongoing promotion of the Chamber and we proudly tout this slogan at different times of the year. Here at the Chamber we firmly believe that shopping locally results in the positive growth of Ames. When our businesses do well they give back to the community. When the cash registers ring in Ames a portion of the sales tax goes back to the community and is reinvested in property tax relief to our citizens and businesses. These sales tax dollars also are plowed back into infrastructure improvements in the community and also support numerous other economic development efforts.
Shop Ames, Grow Ames and help your community by supporting the businesses that are located here in our community!
