Virginia Louise Kolb Unger Kline was born February 2, 1929 and died peacefully of heart failure after a brief hospital stay on November 30, 2013.

“Ginny” was born in Storm Lake, Iowa to Louis and Alma Kolb. She and her brother Vernon were raised in a proud German family on a struggling vegetable farm during the depression. Life was hard, but was met with frugality and love. Graduating college at 19, she started a long career of teaching; her love of children was the hallmark of her life.  She met the first love of her life, Dick Unger.  They married and had four children, Jim, Juli, Jane and John. Tragedy struck in 1976 when Dick died suddenly from a heart attack. Ginny dug deep and found the strength to finish her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, start back to teaching kindergarten full-time and supported her children as the family healed. Ten years later, she married the second love of her life, Reed Kline. She welcomed his children David and Peggy into the family as her own.  Above all else, Ginny was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, step-mother, grandmother and friend.

Our mom always faced our failures with us, and she always would ask, “How can I help?” Our mom always saw the best in us even when we lost sight of ourselves. Our mom never dwelled on what went wrong, she taught us to focus on how to make things right. Our mom never took credit for our successes although they would never have occurred without her. Our mom led by example. Our mom walked in beauty. She faced adversity with incredible grace. She so deeply loved her ”dozen” grandchildren  Rex, Cole, Ryan, Jenna, Lucia, Margaux, Megan, Nick, Reed, Perry, Trisha, and Jennifer. Surviving family members include: her brother, Vernon Kolb, in-laws JoAnn and her husband, Gerald Gerber, sons John, and Jim Unger and his wife Collette, her daughters, Juli and husband, Gary Hancock, Jane and husband Ken Melby, step-daughter Peggy and her husband Pete Iverson, special friend, Theresa Greene and all of her grandchildren.
