November 10, 1928 – December 1, 2013
Anthony Roskam Jr., son of Anthony and Sophia (Rozeboom) Roskam was born November 10, 1928 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. One of 11 children, Tony grew up on farms in Northwest Iowa. One of his first jobs was driving truck for McCormick Transfer of Rock Rapids. On September 15, 1950 he entered the U.S. Army. He served his country for two years during the Korean War. Most of his time in the military was spent in Germany. He was honorably discharged on September 11, 1952. In 1954, Tony along with his young family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to attend the American Institute of Business. In Des Moines, Tony owned and operated his own accounting and tax preparation for 30 years until his retirement in 1993. Tony and his wife Darlene had three boys; Mike, Doug and Mark, together. The marriage ended in divorce. On October 3, 1975, Tony married Bea (Wassenaar) Robyn at the Des Moines Christian Reformed Church, where they were in a Bible Study together. Bea, a widow of three years had two young children. At the time of the marriage, Tony’s children were grown, but Tony willingly took on the responsibility of being the father to Barb and Brian Robyn. Tony and Bea recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. After Tony’s retirement in 1993, the couple became active in the Christian Motorcycle Association (C.M.A.). Their involvement in the C.M.A. allowed them to pursue three of their passions; travel, riding motorcycle and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Tony and Bea were avid travelers. Their travels took them to all of the 50 states of the United States, Canada, Central America and Europe. Along with traveling, Tony spent many hours reading. A member of Crossroads Fellowship CRC (formerly Des Moines CRC) since 1955, Tony served as an elder, deacon, and on numerous committees. In his later years, he was active in the church by serving as a mission advocate and attending Wednesday morning bible study.
