DES MOINES – Last week, Central Iowans donated over 234,000 pounds of food to benefit the Food Bank of Iowa during the 23rd annual “Combat Hunger”.  STAR 102.5 joined forces with sponsors and over 200 local businesses and schools to raise the food and funds needed to help those in need.  The Food Bank of Iowa will distribute the food and other materials donated to 375 partner agencies in 55 Iowa Counties during the holiday season.

“In a time of need, Central Iowans came through in a big way,” said Star 102.5 Program Director, Scott Allen. “This is the 2nd largest amount that we have raised in our 23 years of doing Combat Hunger.”

STAR 102.5’s Combat Hunger is Iowa’s largest two-day food drive. The 2013 Combat Hunger sponsors were Century Link, Service Legends Heating and Cooling, Dahl’s, Casey’s General Store, the Iowa Motor Truck Association, The Des Moines Register and the Mercy Medical Center.

Iowans can still give by going to FOODBANKIOWA.ORG or by texting ACTNOW to 41010.
