November 3, 1966 – November 22, 2013
Seuam Lovan, “Tui”, was born in Vientiane, Laos on November 3, 1966 to Dzung Lovan and Khoum Cathi. When in Laos, he was a fun, loving, chubby little boy with big red cheeks. That’s why he got the nickname “Tui”. He was also quite adventurous and daring. He would go everywhere, picking up anything to examine and taste. Once, he drank gasoline, which was used for lighting the cooking fire, from a can in the kitchen. Then there was the time when he tasted a poisonous fruit that he picked up from under a tree because of a dare from his friends. Both times he ended up having his stomach pumped at the hospital. In 1976, Seaum moved to Iowa, USA, with his family and had been living in Des Moines up until 2006, where he then moved to Marshalltown with his wife, Ronda, and his family.
He is survived by 5 brothers and 2 sisters; Mai Lovan, Serm Lovan, Seaung (Khamphone) Lovan, Som Lovan, Pe Lovan, Lay Lovan and Viengthai (Steve) Sayasane. 4 children; Antonio Schmidt and Kyle, Dacoda and Raina Moore. 5 stepchildren; Skylee, Mai, Serena, Savonny and Zeferi. And 11 grandchildren.
He enjoyed cooking, playing Texas Hold’em, fishing and spending lots of quality time with the grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching TV, especially sports and a variety of movies. He was a fun loving guy with a big sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Tui had a heart of gold.
On Friday, November 22nd, 2013 at 12:15 a.m. Tui was tragically taken away from us. He was preceded in death by his Father, Dzung Lovan, and his step son Mario Ortega. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family but memories of him will last forever.
