DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs will present its 9th annual “Chili for Charity” benefit next week in conjunction with the Historic East Village’s Holiday Promenade.
Chili for Charity will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the State Historical Museum of Iowa, 600 E. Locust Street in Des Moines. Guests will receive a bowl of chili with toppings, cornbread and a drink for $5 or the donation of a new, unwrapped toy. Donations and proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Iowa and the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Santa Claus will visit with children 5-6 p.m. and DJ Dan Kelley will spin holiday tunes. U.S. Marines will collect toy donations for Toys for Tots throughout the event and the “I Have a Dream Foundation” will sponsor a gift-wrapping station.
Chili for Charity is sponsored by KCCI-TV, U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots, Fareway Stores, Iowa Network Services, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFSCME and Café Baratta’s.
