Fundraising dances are held throughout the year at the Webb House in Jefferson.

Fundraising dances are held throughout the year at the Webb House in Jefferson.

This event is a benefit for Lots of Socks, a program co-sponsored by Webb House and the RSVP 55+ Initiative, a group of retired and senior volunteers with the United Way of East Central Iowa, to raise money or collect socks for elementary children in Greene County. Boxes have been put out at various locations throughout the county to collect socks and children’s underwear for the charity. The local high school National Honor Society sponsored the dance to raise money.

Webb House hosts events throughout the year to raise money for causes such as Relay for Life, overseas mission trips and youth group events.

“We do four dances a year, and this is our favorite,” says Jim North, Webb House supervisor and organizer. “We have been around for 15 years, and we have raised $27,000 in that time. We feel very blessed to have received many donations over the years, and this is our way to ‘pay back.’ ”

First United Methodist Church in Jefferson will also host a musical performance Christmas program, “The Night Before Christmas Caper,” on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 10:30 a.m. The event is put on by the Crazy 4 Christ youth group, made up of kids in transitional kindergarten through fourth grade. All are welcome to attend this event.

The Dwelling Place, 303 Gallup Road E. Hwy 30, Jefferson, will offer a free Thanksgiving feast on Nov. 24 at noon following the morning worship service in the church fellowship hall. Everyone is welcome to attend, and there is no cost for the event.
