On a beautiful, crisp fall morning I decided to stop in to the new Dunkin’ Donuts in West Des Moines. It was mid-morning, and I figured it would be a good time to get a late breakfast for myself and my daughter.
To my surprise, the place was packed at almost 10 a.m. on a week day. There was a line almost to the door and people lounging, talking and eating at nearly every table in the place. As I waited in line with my toddler and looked at the menu above the counter, I immediately decided to try the classic breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and bacon on an English muffin. We also ordered a pumpkin crumb cake doughnut and a maple glazed doughnut.
Although the coffee, espresso and latte choices all looked amazing, I decided to forgo that and focus on the food for this trip. We paid only a little more than $7 for everything and settled in to the last table open.
During the short wait, my daughter and I tried out the maple glazed doughnut. It was sugary sweet with a hint of caramel and maple flavor, enough to please both toddler and adult.
The sandwich was good sized for fast food and warm and toasty to the touch. One bite was all I needed to know it was a good choice. The egg was thick and delicious with crispy fried bacon on top. I admittedly ate this mostly by myself, but even my toddler ate a good portion of it on her own and loved it.
Now for the undeniably best part of our meal: the pumpkin crumb cake doughnut. The pumpkin-flavored cake doughnut with creamy frosting and yummy crumb cake on top was sweet, full of flavor and just perfect for the fall season.
As I cleaned up our napkins and bags, we packed up to leave. Squeezing out the door past the large line, I decided next time we would try the coffee that smelled so good.
Dunkin’ Donuts is a great addition to the area and perfect for friends and families.
