Kindles are loaded and ready

Posted November 13, 2013 in Community Featured

Have you thought about trying out one of those digital E-book readers, but didn’t want to buy one?

The library has purchased 11 Kindles and pre-loaded them with books by your favorite authors.  Patrons can come to the reference desk to “check out” a Kindle to use for two weeks.  Rita Schmidt, reference librarian, has chosen the titles that are on each device.  There’s sure to be something of interest to you on each one. All you have to do is turn on the device and choose a book. It’s that simple. Stop by the reference desk, and Rita will be happy to help you select just the right Kindle for you.

During this season of gratitude, the Fort Dodge Public Library is grateful to several people and organizations that provide volunteer support and monetary donations that allow us to offer the programs, collections and services that are used by our wonderful patrons. The Board of Trustees provides guidance and leadership to the library director and staff. The Fort Dodge Public Library Foundation provides funding for the library collection. The Friends of the Fort Dodge Public Library provide adult programming through the Brown Bag Briefings, purchase the magazine subscriptions and provide funding from sales in the Book Shoppe for the summer library programs and story times for all youth. The Fawkes family provides funding for the family winter reading program. The Catherine Vincent Deardorf Charitable Foundation also provides a vital contribution to purchase items for the library collection and some of the online services we offer. The Ann Smeltzer Charitable Trust provides an annual donation for programming for the library. Pride in Community Appearance (PICA) has provided virtually all the landscaping and outdoor maintenance of the grounds of the library and the square. Books-on-the-Go provides materials to those who cannot travel to the library. We also have volunteers who help process new materials to prepare them for circulation. We could not have a library of this quality in our community if it were not for all of these groups and individuals. Thank you from the staff of the Fort Dodge Public Library. You truly are our heroes.
