David John Miller, 70, of Arcadia, Iowa, died Monday, November 11, 2013 of a rare disease (Amyloidosis) at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 15, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church after 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 15 where there will be a prayer service held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church at 8:30 a.m. on Friday until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Rebecca Dose and congregational hymns will be “On Eagles Wings” “I know My Redeemer Lives” and “Amazing Grace”. Casket bearers will be Dave’s nephews; Brad Brightwell, Craig Brightwell, Robert Guritz, Todd Lee, Gary Lenz, Randy Neumann, Craig Rose, Jeff Rose, and Chad Schumacher. Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Arcadia American Legion.

Dave was born in Webster City, Iowa on December 23, 1942 to Art and Francis (Hoeffer) Miller. He grew up in the Ralston area and graduated from Glidden Ralston High School. He was married to Gayle Jean Brightwell on September 5, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. He was drafted into the army in 1964 and honorably served our country for two years with a one year tour of duty in Vietnam.

After his discharge from the service, he worked at Reiff Standard as an auto technician. He owned and operated Miller Service for 19 years and then worked as an auto technician for various businesses in Carroll until April 2013 due to his declining health.

Dave was a devoted husband and father. He raised two children and taught them how to play, laugh, and be kind to others. He loved his grandchildren dearly and thought of his nieces and nephews as his own. He enjoyed photography, cars, and spending time with his family. Dave was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was confirmed into faith in 1966. He was also a member of the Arcadia American Legion.

Dave is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gayle (Brightwell) Miller; daughter, Jodi Stumbo and husband Kevin; son, Bryan Miller and his girlfriend Jessi Baker; granddaughter, Maddie Andersen, and step-grandchildren, Jennie Andersen, Mike Andersen and wife Dani, Kelsey Stumbo, Cole Stumbo, and Clay Stumbo; three sisters, Diane Guritz, Patty Miller, and Sue Miller, and brother Doug Miller; brother-in-law Bob Brightwell; sister-in-law Joyce Lee and husband Roger; as well as several special nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law Arleen Brightwell; father-in-law Dean Brightwell; and brother-in-law Paul Guritz.
