Amare was born on January 1, 1928 in Sekota Ethiopia, the son of Hadas Mercha and Fellake Berhi. He finished his education in Mekele Ethiopia.
Amare left his homeland and relocated in Sudan in 1950 to work in a petroleum extraction project headed by an Italian company based on Jezera – Barakat until 1958. He started working for the American Embassy in Khartoum – Sudan as a technician of films and projectors from 1958 – 1983 when he retired.
He was married to Fayza Bashay Mekeil since 1970. They have three children, Athtipia, Nadir, and Asgdish of Des Moines, IA.
Amare continued to contribute and touch lives and help others. He was an asset and hard working member at the Medhane Alem Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Khartoum Sudan.
He worked with the Norwegian Church and Aid as an assistant procurement officer in Khartoum Sudan 1984 – 1990.
In September 2000 Amare and his wife, Fayza and two daughters were relocated in Des Moines, IA to join his son, Nadir. Amare will be missed forever by everyone whose lives he touched. His memory will always be with us.
