As the days grow shorter and the nights get colder your library is working hard to stay warm and busy. In November we have an awesome Milk and Bookies story time, one of our favorite Friends of the Adel Public Library fundraisers, and lots of other great events and programs.
Your library is excited to be hosting a Milk and Bookies Story Time to benefit the Adel Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Center as well as Children and Families of Iowa. This special event on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. is a great way to inspire children to become lifelong givers. We’ll have books for you to purchase or you can bring gently-used books as a donation. Kids will have a chance to inscribe their books with messages of hope and kindness. We believe this is a great chance to teach kids to have empathy for children and families in need.
The holidays are fast approaching and our master chef (at least she could be) Janet and the library staff have some great no-bake desserts to help make your family gatherings quick and easy. Join us on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. to share some yummy treats and learn some fun holiday recipes.
We miss watching classic movies on the big screen, so we’ve decided to bring back Classic Movie Mondays. We’ll watch “On Golden Pond” starring Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda on Monday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. We’ll bring the popcorn.
Believe it or not, it’s almost time for one of our favorite Friends of the Library fundraisers. The annual Christmas Basket Silent Auction raises funds for the purchase of new audio books on CD. Adel area churches, civic groups, clubs and individuals are asked to prepare fun-filled baskets full of goodies. Baskets may be brought to the library from Monday, Nov. 4 through Saturday, Nov. 16. Guidelines about how to put together a basket and ideas for basket themes are available at the front desk. The auction and silent bidding will begin on Monday, Nov. 18. These baskets always make wonderful holiday gifts.
Your library would never be able to function without the help of our volunteers, and in September this wonderful group spent 158 hours working in the library. We are always looking for new volunteers, and if you’d like to donate your time and talents to your library, please call 993-3510 and ask for the volunteer coordinator.
The library will be closed in observance of Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11. We are also closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving. As always, information about the Adel Public Library and all of our clubs, events, and programs is available on our website at www.adelpl.org , or you can follow us on our Facebook page or on Twitter at https://twitter.com/AdelLibrary.
