Marlys Scholtec, 81, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, November 1, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Urbandale where the family will greet friends from 1:30 – 3 p.m.
Marlys was born November 18, 1931, in Minot, ND to Lowell and Martha Dahl. She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from North High School. After marrying Frank Scholtec they moved to Des Moines where they raised their three children. Marlys passionately pursued and achieved her Masters in Psychology from Drake University and worked as a therapist. She will always be remembered for embracing everyone she met with genuine loving kindness, beautiful smile and sense of humor. In her words, “The two things that will change your life are the people you meet and the books you read”
Marlys is survived by her children Terri (Scholtec) Jones of Wayzata, MN, Dawn (Paul) Koester of Helotes, TX and Gregg Scholtec of Clive; her step children, Senator Sandra (Neal Gosman) Pappas of St. Paul, MN, Kimothy (Angela) Scholtec and Patricia Miller of Robinsdale, MN of Port St. Lucie, FL; her grandchildren, Jessica Jones, Lauren Koester, McKenzie Koester, Nikki Baker, Emily Scholtec and Aaron Scholtec; and two great-granddaughters, Maddie Green and Peyton Baker.
She is now at peace with her loving husband and will be cherished by many. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at the Mayo Clinic and Urbandale Health Care Center.
