DCHS 2013 FALL SPORTS SEASON NEWS
GIRLS SWIM AND DIVE
The post season got off to a great start at the Conference Championships last week at Johnston with all three Maroon divers easily placing in the top 10. SO Margaret Engel led the way finishing 4th followed by JR Gabrielle White (7th) and SR Co-captain Natalie Wodniak (8th). The ten team meet was loaded with 3 of the top 5 teams in the state present. FR Hannah Williamson continued her strong first year with a 3rd place finish in the 200 Free to start the individual swimming events and SO Juliette Sanders (6th) and Megan Siembieda (8th) joined her on the medal stand. In the 200 IM SR McKenna Pierce captured 10th to pick up some points toward the team goal and after the first four events DCHS stood in 4th place. JR Anne Marie Westercamp added to her stellar season with a 6th place finish in the 50 Free. In the 100 Fly, once again, it was the youth of the team that reached the medal stand and garnered crucial points as FR Megan Lilly (4th) and SO Alison Carmody (12th) both produced individual best times. After the 100 Free in which Siembieda (14th) gathered important points, the Maroons were 5th overall. SR Lauren Sweers (7th) and SO Caroline Dee (12th) swam well in the 500 Free leading up to the end of the meet. The 200 Free Relay team of Williamson, SR Savannah Orewiler, Pierce and Westercamp fought hard to narrowly claim 5th place by 0.00.05 over Waukee to place DCHS firmly in 5th place with 3 events left. SR Co-captain Gianna DeMarco got into the act with a 12th place finish in the 100 Back followed closely by Carmody in 13th. The 100 Breast wasn’t kind to DCHS as JR Jaena Delahunt and FR Anushi Wijayagunarantne came in just outside the points with a 17th and 18th place finish respectively. Fortunately, the 6th place finish of the 400 Relay team of Williamson, Siembieda, SO Juliette Sanders and Westercamp was enough to help DCHS hold off Mason City and Ankeny for 5th place overall. The girls will swim next week at the regional state qualifying meet in Johnston. The diving will be held on Thursday, October 31st and the swimming will be on Saturday, November 2nd.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to the #8 ranked Dowling Catholic boys cross country team for earning a district championship title. Ryan Schweizer, currently the #3 ranked runner in the state, was the individual champion. He was closely followed by Spencer Clark at 2nd. All of the Maroons placed in the top 20 with Jonathon Hittner in 7th, Patrick Finnegan at #9, Ian McKenzie at 14th, Sam Amadeo at 16th and Jake Prebeck was 20th. Five of the seven boys earned new PRs. The Maroon run for the state championship Saturday, Nov 2 at 11:30 on the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
The #9 ranked Dowling Catholic Volleyball program wrapped up another successful regular season. We are proud of all of the levels in our program! It has been a fun season for the girls on all of the teams. Each team has seen great success with a lot of wins and a lot of great memories made. Great job ladies!!!! The varsity team is heading into the post season with a record of 28-8. They are excited to get their tournament trail started by hosting the winner of DM North and Waukee next Thursday night at 7:00 PM. See you all at Dowling Catholic next Thursday as you cheer your DCHS volleyball team on to get their first post season victory!
The #1 ranked Maroons improved to 5-0 in the conference and 9-0 overall to finish the regular season with a win over Marshalltown 49-0. Elliott Treinen led the maroon rushing attack with 145 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nate Christian adds 2 touchdowns and ran for 82 yards. Chase Dowell added 84 yards and a touchdown.
The defensive line put pressure on Bobcats all game shutting them out. Dowling has won their last 5 games by at least 32 points each and not given up more than 10 points in any one of those games.
The Maroons start their playoff run Wed (10-30-13) against Sioux City West at Williams Stadium (East) at 7:00 P.M.
The Freshman Football team won 52-14 over Marshalltown last Thursday. The boys started out strong, with two scores coming in the first 2 minutes of the game. All four Dowling quarterbacks contributed to touchdowns during the game. There were two passing touchdowns, as well as rushing touchdowns from Ben Wilson (35 yards), Jacob Zachary (27 yards), Connor Pitz (4 yards), and Aaron Krah (41 yards, 12 yards). Dylan Watters provided a highlight with his 45 yard touchdown run, shedding tacklers long the way! Defense was led by a strong rush the entire night. Dakota Streyffeler recoded multiple sacks on the night. The secondary continued its solid play with Sam Olson’s two interceptions and another from Jack Koerner. Ethan Jorgensen closed out the night with an interception on the last play of the game. Nice job boys. Great season!
