The library is lending a doll? What is up with that?
Yes, we are lending one American Girl doll out to patrons. American Girl dolls are used in other libraries across the U.S. It is a good way to let children have a chance to play with an historical doll. Felicity is the name of the Drake Library’s first American Girl doll. The library has her series of books on hand as well. Our doll and her accessories are provided and paid for by the Friends of the Drake Public Library. If you have a doll or an item to donate, call JeNel at 641-856-6676. Donations are tax deductible.
The library is also now lending cake pans. More than 300 cake pans were donated to the library. There are all kinds of pans — horses, famous cartoon characters and all occasions are represented in the collection. Come in and check one out today. We have a binder with pictures of all the pans for browsing. We will have a cake decorating class in the future to encourage people to bake their own cakes.
Now is the time to renew your Friends of the Drake Public Library membership. Single memberships are $5 per year. Family memberships are $10. Sponsorship levels are available as well. Remember, these donations are tax deductible and 100 percent of the proceeds support the Drake Public Library.
Holiday gift giving is just around the corner. The best gift to give to a child is the love of reading. Ask for a suggestion list and buy some new books for the people on your shopping list. Pop-up books and ongoing series are popular with the kids these days.
If you have someone on your list who is hard to buy for, donate some money to a nonprofit in his or her honor. The Drake Library has purchased books in honor of people. The books stay at the library and do not become another dust catcher.
