Jack Arnold Clark, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on October 19, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 10:30am at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, October 24 at the funeral home.
Jack Arnold Clark was born on August 20, 1926, in Des Moines, the son of John Clark and Doris Crouse Clark. Jack spent his childhood years in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Jack went on to attend Drake University for two years. He spent time in the military as a paratrooper and worked with his father and his brother, Jerry at Clark Peterson Plumbing & Heating. He later went on to become a land and lake developer including developing the Glebe in Washington D.C. Jack also built and sold many nursing homes in Iowa and Florida along with developing Boji Bay Water Park in Milford, IA. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
As a child, Jack enjoyed many outings to his family’s cabin in Minnesota with his parents, brother, and sister Marilyn. Jack married Gilda Buckley and from that union was born three children: Marty, Christopher, and Debra. Jack married Barb Glover in January 2006. Together they enjoyed motorcycle riding, convertible cruising, camping, and traveling- especially to Hawaii. He enjoyed feeding and watching all of the wildlife at their home. Jack spent many, many hours taking family, friends, and employees boating and deep sea fishing. He enjoyed airplanes, collector cars, and scale models. Jack also loved to spend time on artistic/decorative painting.
Jack is survived by his wife, Barb; children, Marty (Becky) Clark of Vero Beach, FL, Chris (Wendy) Clark of Bluffton, SC and Debra (Mary) Clark-Simmons of Omaha, NE; brother, Jerry (Shirley) Clark; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Jack is also survived by his three dogs: Max, Frank, and Cooper and his three cats: Harley, Tiger, and Payton.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Blanchard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in honor of Jack’s love of animals.
