Fall book sale set for Oct. 24- 26

Mark your calendars for the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale, Oct. 24 – 26.

Friends Day is Thursday, Oct. 24. If you are not already a member, join at the door for just $5. The sale is open to the public on Friday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. On Saturday you can fill a box or bag and leave a free will offering from 10 a.m. – noon. Donations of clean, used books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, albums and magazines for the sale are being accepted at the library through Monday, Oct. 21.

Upcoming events
Teen Lounge (grades 6-12) from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons in the library meeting room. A place to hang out with friends, use a laptop or do homework. Plus snacks, video games, movies and more on special days  All teens are welcome.
Book Discussion: “Pay it Forward” by Catherine Ryan Hyde, Tuesday, Oct. 22 at noon.  In November, we will read “Caleb’s Crossing” by Geraldine Brooks on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at noon. Books are available at the checkout desk.  Everyone is welcome.
Ghosts: Fact or Fiction?  Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. George Walker, paranormal researcher, will lead a discussion about the paranormal and bring handheld devices to demonstrate.
Food for Fines: Throughout the month of November the library is sponsoring a food drive for the Upper Des Moines Food Bank. You can drop off non-perishable food items at the checkout desk and receive a reduction in fines in return.
Movie: “The Heat,” Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. Popcorn and drinks provided. Enjoy this movie on our big screen with surround sound.
Stitch ‘n Chat: Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m. You supply your project and the library will supply refreshments.

Children’s programming
Saturday Children’s Movies are shown every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon for ages kindergarten to fifth grade. Oct. 19: “The Croods,” (PG); Oct. 26: “Frankenweenie,” (PG); Nov. 2: “Monster in Paris,” (PG); Nov. 9: “Bolt,” (PG); Nov. 16: “Lego Batman.”
 Lego Fun Club (ages 5 and older): Last Tuesday of the month, 4 – 5 p.m. (Oct. 29, Nov. 26).
Preschool Storytime (ages 3-5): Tuesdays, Nov. 5 – Dec. 10, 10:05 – 10:35 a.m.
 Toddler Storytime (ages 2-3): First Wednesday of the month, 10:05 – 10:35 a.m.
