Norma Rhodes Warnock was born February 1, 1925 on the family farm just south of Spencer, Iowa. She was one of nine children born to William and Ethel (Leger) Rhodes. She enjoyed farm life and told many stories of the escapades she and her siblings enjoyed growing up.
She graduated from Spencer High School at the age of 17 and at 18 moved with her longtime friend Corrine to train as a transcriptionist for the government at the height of WWII. While working she met the love of her life, Everette Vernon Warnock, from Portsmouth, KY. The couple married soon after and the love affair between them continued until Everette passed away in 1994. Their relationship was an inspiration to their children, grandchildren and everyone who knew them.
During their marriage they traveled around the Midwest following Everette’s work as manager and owner of Sidles Automotive Company, most of their life being spent in the Dawson and Perry, Iowa area. In later years they traveled to more exotic places like Spain, London and the Bahamas. They enjoyed playing cards, golfing and spending time together.
Norma loved discovering and learning new things until the end of her life. She completed the daily crossword puzzle without fail and spent years learning and refining her computer skills. She read her Bible every night and claimed she found as many questions as answers within the pages.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and her beloved husband Everette.
Norma is survived by 5 children: David Warnock (Patricia), Diane Davis (Gary), Laura Wyatt (Mike), Linda Bailey (Brad), and Mary McComb (Tim), 6 grandchildren: JD Warnock, Kelly Smith (Jason) and Sean Wyatt, Aaron and Maggie Bailey, and Justin McComb; 2 great grandchildren: Elsa Warnock and Kenneth McComb; other relatives and many friends.Information provided by: Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home 119 West Lincolnway PO Box 108 Jefferson, Iowa 50129 515.386.2171 www.sliningerrossowfuneralhome.com
