Mary Micetich

Mary (Kauzlarich) Micetich, age 95 of Cincinnati, Iowa entered into eternal life on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville.

She was born on July 28, 1918 in Cincinnati, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew and Katherine (Briskey) Kauzlarich.

Mary received her education in the Cincinnati, Iowa school system, graduating in 1935. Upon high school graduation, she completed a teacher training course and taught grades Kindergarten through eighth grade for three years at the Holman School in Cincinnati.

On June 24, 1939, Mary was united in marriage to Angelo Micetich at St. Mary’s Church in Centerville, Iowa. They first resided in Moline, Illinois, where she worked at Joseph’s Jewelers and later at Moline Plow. During World War II she joined her husband, who was in the Navy, at Norfolk, Virginia. After the war was over, they returned to Appanoose County where they purchased a farm. Mary lived on the family farm for fifty nine years. In 2009, after her husband’s death, Mary moved to Centerville.

Mary had many talents. She was an excellent seamstress; she loved to do oil painting; she was a wonderful cook. It was not unusual to find her upholstering or doing carpentry. She always welcomed friends, neighbors, and relatives to her home or dinner table. Never was Mary too busy to lend an ear or play a game with the nieces and nephews.

Mary belonged to the St. Mary’s Sewing Group, Ladies of St. Mary’s, and the Croatian Fest Committee sponsored by St. Mary’s. She sewed many of the Croatian costumes and baptismal garments for the Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo, in 2008; her father in 1950; and her mother in 1978.

Surviving to honor Mary’s memory is her sister, Lenora Burnett; and many nieces and nephews.
