See a sneak preview of the Des Moines Community Playhouse production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Come and enjoy the performance, and sign up to win free tickets to the play.

Furry Tales
Oct. 12, Nov. 2, 11 a.m.
Stop by the library to sign up for a 10-minute slot to read a favorite story to therapy dog Scout. Sharing stories with Scout is a fantastic way to practice reading skills and make a furry friend at the same time. Children’s Story Room.

What’s in a Color?
Oct. 16, 4 p.m.
There will be lots of experimenting with different types of colors when Iowa State’s student role models visit the library. This program is for third through fifth graders and requires preregistration.

Free Advice for Your Device
Oct. 26, 2 p.m.
Get the lowdown on the library’s downloadables. Bring your mobile device (smartphone, tablet or e-reader) to get advice and help installing the library’s apps for e-books, downloadable audiobooks and e-magazines. The class and apps are all free. Your gadget must have basic setup done (out of the box, set up, passwords entered, charged and know the basics) as a prerequisite to this class. You will need your library card and PIN, and you may need the password for your App Store on your device. Pre-register.

Pizza and Pages: Teen Book Discussion
Oct. 28, 4 p.m.
Come and enjoy some pizza as we discuss “The Adoration of Jenna Fox” by Mary Pearson. The book can be picked up at the information desk.

Afternoon Book Discussion
Nov. 4, 1 p.m.
We will discuss “Nella Last’s War: The 2nd World War Diaries of Housewife, 49” by Nella Last, Richard Broad and Suzie Fleming. Copies of the book are available at the information desk.

Volunteens
Nov. 4, 4 p.m.
Join the Franklin Library Volunteens. Come and volunteer your time to help out with various library projects. Stop in at the library to fill out an application, have it signed by a parent or guardian, and you will be contacted by library staff with more specific information about the group.

Story Times schedule
Mondays: Preschool Story Time, 10:15 a.m. Develop your imagination with stories, rhymes, songs and a lot of fun.

Tuesdays: Baby Rhyme Time, 10:15 a.m. Ages infant – 18 months. For babies and their caregivers, featuring rhymes, songs and bounces followed by a period of free play.
