Sometimes it’s fun to try a new restaurant that seems like something completely unique and different.
This is exactly what my husband and I decided to do. We had heard that the space that was once Tartine is now Table 128, which uses lots of locally grown produce. Always a big supporter of restaurants such as this, I was intrigued and excited. We crossed University Avenue into Clive for our adventure.
We were greeted by a smiling hostess who showed us to a booth. We were served water out of a carafe that was left at our table so we could fill our glasses as needed. With a thirsty toddler in tow, I was grateful for this not-so-common practice.
Hungry and eager to try all the delicious, unique choices, we ordered the chips and dip as a starter. Moving on to the main courses, we quickly learned that there is a small but well-rounded selection. From salads and specialty burgers to duck and pasta dishes, there were many that caught my attention. I decided on the mac and cheese with grilled chicken. I also went with a side of their soup of the day which was sweet corn, bacon and potato chowder.
Our chips and dip were served almost immediately. The chips were homemade and paired well with the familiar, yet flavorful dip. We all devoured these, even my usually picky toddler.
Soon after, my soup arrived. The taste was unlike anything I had experienced before. It was thick and creamy, and the bacon mixed with the corn perfectly. This is truly a summery Iowan soup.
My macaroni and cheese was warm and flavorful, and I could taste the good quality ingredients. My toddler devoured another cup of the soup, and by the end of the meal we were all very full.
This is a unique and delicious restaurant and a welcome addition to the area.
