Elizabeth Ellen Eckley, age 92, of Boone, died October 7, 2013, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
She has been cremated and a graveside service will be Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the Squire Boone Cemetery, south of Boone. Burial will follow the service.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
On Saturday, friends may call at the chapel from 8 a.m. until noon.
Elizabeth was born in What Cheer, Iowa, on February 24, 1921, the daughter of William and Nellie (Brainard) Whiteaker.
On August 30, 1939, Elizabeth married Arthur V. Eckley in Webster City.
She grew up and attended school in Webster City and lived most of her adult life in Boone.
For many years, Elizabeth worked at Hawkeye Laundry and then in the laundry department at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. She retired in July of 1984.
Elizabeth enjoyed sewing, embroidery and needlework, puzzle books, and taking care of her cats.
She loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1982, her son Robert in 1946, a grandson Christian Eckley in 1983, a daughter Ellen Cryder in 2011, three brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by a son Junior (Susan) Eckley of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; three daughters, Elsie Collins of Boone, Linda Larson of Ankeny, and Alice (Ron) Bass of Boone; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Chris) Jemison of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Sara Bass of Boone, and Stacey (Randy) Franzen of Polk City; two grandsons Christopher Collins of Clermont, Florida, and Jonathan (Danielle) Crook of Boone; sixteen great grandchildren; and a sister Elsie Heidick of Webster City.
