DES MOINES, Iowa –October 8, 2013 — Today, the Polk County Board of Supervisors unanimously ratified a contract to hire Urbandale’s Mark Wandro as the new Polk County Administrator to begin on November 4, 2013. Mark Wandro is the replacement for David Jones who recently left employment as Administrator to become the City Manager for the city of Ankeny.
Mark has lived in Central Iowa for over 25 years and has served state government, and Polk County, in a number of roles – including as former Assistant Polk County Engineer. Mark is leaving his current position as Executive Vice President of Snyder & Associates, Inc. to take the position.
“The Polk County Administrator is the top executive staff person in Polk County Government and the board, and residents of Polk County demand a great deal from this administrator,” says Polk County Board of Supervisors Chair Tom Hockensmith. Supervisor Hockensmith continued, “Mark has a great deal of experience working in government from the local level all the way up to the federal level. He has deep ties to Central Iowa and will serve the board well.” Mark Wandro will receive an annual salary of $185,000 per year to serve in this position.
Mark Wandro – Background:
B.S. Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and registered as a Professional Engineer & Land Surveyor with the State of Iowa
Has extensive experience working with Des Moines MPO, Metro Waste Authority, Wastewater Reclamation Authority, background in working with multiple municipalities and local governments in Polk County.
Former Director of the Iowa Department of Transportation where he managed a workforce of nearly 3,500 employees and annual budgets in excess of $1 billion annually.
Former Assistant Polk County Engineer for over 10 years with experience managing Engineering, Planning & Zoning, Building Permits, Housing Rehabilitation, Air Quality and Environmental Health.
