JOHNSTON, Iowa (Oct. 2, 2013) – Iowa bankers help Iowans achieve their dream of homeownership — typically by financing their mortgage loans. This week, 42 Iowa bankers helped one Iowa family get one step closer to their homeownership dream in yet another way by helping to build their home as part of a Habitat for Humanity Panel Build in the parking lot of the Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) in Johnston.
“The Iowa Bankers Association has been sponsoring home builds with Habitat for Humanity for nearly a decade,” said John Sorensen, president and CEO of the Iowa Bankers Association. “Our partnership with Habitat is a natural extension of the work of Iowa banks to help Iowans meet their housing needs and obtain home financing. Sponsoring a Habitat build is another valuable and hands-on way to help meet the needs of Iowa families. We’re happy to be a part of it.”
The IBA Habitat Build on Oct. 1, was a “Panel” build, and is unique from a typical Habitat build. The Panel build is a new option provided by Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, where a group of volunteers build the wall panels of an entire home in one day. Volunteers create a frame consisting of interior and exterior wall panels that will be used at a later date to construct a Habitat home for a low-income family.
The following member Iowa banks and business partners provided volunteers for this week’s build:
