Posted October 01, 2013 in Community Web Exclusives, Urbandale

URBANDALE, Iowa – October 1, 2013 Urbandale Community Education is pleased to announce a renewed partnership with the Urbandale Community Theatre. Beginning this summer, the Urbandale Community Theatre will hold an annual performance of a Broadway musical production in the Performing Arts Center located at Urbandale High School. The Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the-art venue utilizing the most innovative, contemporary and advanced resources available in theatres today. This year’s Broadway musical production of “The Music Man” will run July 18-27, 2014, and will be directed by Dan Chase.

“We’ve been fortunate to receive high praise from our audiences over the years,” said Carl Johnson, who has conducted every Urbandale Community Theatre musical since its founding. “Community members have shared with us that our productions are some of the finest they have ever attended, including those on the East Coast and West Coast, and they’ll schedule future vacations around our production schedule. Knowing we’re having such a positive impact on our community inspires us to consistently create meaningful theatre productions.”

Founded in 1996, the Urbandale Community Theatre was developed to promote a total theatre experience in the Urbandale community. Ranging in age and experience, the all-volunteer cast and crew share a common passion for delivering exceptional and memorable theatre productions. Guiding these talented individuals are highly-experienced and professional musical, technical and choral directors.

Untitled“Urbandale Community Theatre long held shows in Urbandale High School but with the movement of Urbandale Community Education back to the district, we both felt it would be a win-win for the community to house a community theatre program,” said Dr. William Watson, Director of Activities and Community Education, Urbandale Community School District. “We feel this provides yet another way to ‘bring learning to life’ for those in our community and provide a cultural experience for all.”

The combination of a passion for the performing arts and an expertise in developing noteworthy productions creates a final product that often exceeds audience expectations. Members in the community with an interest in acting, music, art and/or set design are invited to participate. To learn more about the Urbandale Community Theatre, visit:
