Paul Kordick
Paul Vincent Kordick, Jr. of Des Moines was born on July 10, 1942, the son of Paul and Alma Kordick and died September 27, 2013. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 4 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 618 E. 18th St., Des Moines. Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.
Paul attended Visitation and Dowling High Schools as well as Northwest Missouri State. He served in the U.S. Navy on active duty for four years out of Hawaii and then 22 years in the Naval Reserves out of Des Moines. He met the love of his life, Norma, at the Naval Yard in Hawaii. They were married in 1967 in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada and have been married for 46 years.
Paul was an electrician for the West Des Moines School District for 26 years and then was self employed until retirement. He was active in his church, serving as Eucharistic minister, lector and religious education instructor for a number of years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree), Toastmasters, Electrical Union and Businessmen of Highland Park. He enjoyed fishing and wood working.
He was preceded in death by one sister, grandparents and parents. Paul is survived by his wife, Norma; a daughter, Dawn of Council Bluffs; son, Timothy (Jamie) of Poplar Bluff, MO and three adorable grandchildren, Madyson, Owen and Isaac; a brother, Joseph; a sister, Janel of Des Moines; and an aunt, Sister Genevieve Kordick of Dubuque.
Visitation will be held at Iles Grandview Park Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 3 with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Catholic Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
