Betty Jean Larson, age 88, of Boone and the Westhaven Community, died September 26, 2013, at Westhaven.
Following her wishes, she will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Sarah Karber officiating. Burial of her cremains will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.
Betty was born on the family farm near Dow City, Iowa, on August 18, 1925, the daughter of Harry and Olga (Olson) Sharp.
On April 7, 1945, Betty married Robert Larson at Denison, Iowa.
She worked in the food service department at Boone High School and later was head cook at Franklin School. Betty retired in 1988.
Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, RSVP, TOPS, the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary, and performed volunteer work at Evangelical Free Church Home/Westhaven Community for 20 years.
She loved spending time with her family.
Betty was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
She enjoyed embroidery, collecting Willow Tree Angels and Boyd’s Bears, going on rides looking for deer, reading, and listening to gospel and old time country music.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons Richard and Mike, great grandson Ashton, brother Vernon, and sister Irene.
Betty is survived by two daughters Marge Bollenbaugh and husband Kenny of Boone and Cindy Adreon and husband Tim of Ogden; five grandchildren, Stacey (Travis) Givens and their daughter Vanessa of Ankeny; Amanda (Chad) Johnson of Boone; Katie (Paul) Newbury of Grimes; Brad (Angie) Adreon and their son Gage of Villisca; and Andrea Bollenbaugh of Boone; and four great-grandchildren due the end of this year; two brothers Vinton Sharp of Denison and Jesse Sharp of Odebolt; three sisters, Beulah Mulligan of Dunlap, Alma Ganatos and husband Jerry of Murrieta, California, and Mary Raymer of Macomb, Illinois; two sisters-in-law Ninnette Benningsdorf of Boone and Donna Larson of Ute; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Tuesday from 3 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
Visitation on Wednesday will be at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
