Barbara Ellen Easton, 65, died on Monday, September 23, 2013, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, September 27, at New Hope United Methodist Church, located at 4525 N.W. Beaver Drive in Des Moines. Burial will take place later at 4 p.m., on Friday, at Mount Hope Cemetery, in Maquoketa, IA.

Barbara was born on November 4, 1947, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Harlan D. and Marquerite (Summers) Easton. She was a 1965 graduate of Maquoketa High School and a 1972 graduate of the Moline Public Hospital Nursing Program. Barbara was employed as a surgical nurse for many years with Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

She is survived by her three sisters, Gayle Easton, Martha Ann (Dennis) Bronner and Sandra (Len) Schmidt; nephews, Neil (Kristen) Schmidt and Jason (Anna) Bronner; niece, Jennifer (Chris) McGhee; five great-nieces and great-nephews, Keaton McGhee, Maggie and Garrett Schmidt, and Leila and Maya Bronner; and a host of extended family members and friends, including several cousins and their families. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, September 26, at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors and staff at John Stoddard Cancer Center and the Oncology Dept. at Iowa Methodist for their endless care and support throughout Barbara’s illness.
