WAUKEE, URBANDALE & CLIVE, Iowa – A left-turn lane improvement project on U.S. 6 (Hickman Road) through the communities of Waukee, Urbandale and Clive will require nighttime lane closures from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights beginning Sunday, Sept. 22, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Left-turn lanes will be lengthened to accommodate more vehicles in both the east- and westbound lanes at five intersections with U.S. 6, including: Warrior Lane & Alice’s Road in Waukee, 156th Street in Clive, 142nd Street and 128th Street in Urbandale/Clive. During the closures both the east- and westbound lanes at the intersection will be closed for construction. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 27, with Absolute Concrete Construction, Inc. of Slater as the prime contractor.
The Iowa DOT and the cities of Waukee, Urbandale and Clive would like to remind motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
As indicated above this will be a nighttime road construction project. Therefore, the cities would like to notify residents living near U.S. 6 (Hickman Road) of the construction noise that will be associated with this project such as concrete sawing, pavement breaking and general heavy equipment noise. The night schedule was chosen over closing these turning lanes during peak traffic times.
