DUBUQUE, Iowa, Sept. 18, 2013 — Black Hills Energy employee Justin Jones of Dubuque has been honored with one of only four Chairman’s Awards presented companywide each year by David R. Emery, the corporation’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Jones, a manager of gas utility operations, was recommended for the award by Steve Stone, a fellow manager of gas operations. Stone based his submission on Jones’s accomplishments as an operations supervisor in Webster City, Iowa, from 2010 until he was promoted and moved to Dubuque in May of this year. Jones was chosen from among more than 100 nominations within a workforce of nearly 2,000 employees.
Emery said selecting just four recipients when there were so many worthy candidates was a painstaking process. “The Chairman’s Award recognizes individuals and teams that consistently demonstrate Black Hills Corporation’s dedication to service and embody the company’s values,” Emery said. “I look for people and teams that personify the qualities and standards by which all of us at Black Hills Corporation must abide. These are value-driven people, strong in character and focused on improving lives.”
Tracy Peterson, Operating Vice President for Black Hills Energy’s Iowa gas utility, said Jones is seen as a positive leader. “When Justin speaks, his team listens,” Peterson said. “He has earned the respect and admiration of his team. They trust Justin to be open to other opinions and to seek advice when it’s called for in order to reach the right decisions.”
Jones considers the award an honor. “I’ve been blessed to work with outstanding people and outstanding teams in Webster City, Iowa, with our Iowa state leadership, and now in Eastern Iowa. They all contributed greatly to this recognition. I’d like to give special thanks to the Webster City team for their drive towards excellence. What a great team!”
The other three Chairman’s Awards for 2013 went to the team of employees at the Black Hills Energy natural gas utility office in Dodge City, Kan., and individual employees from Rapid City, S.D., and the corporation’s Wyodak Mine in Gillette, Wyo.
Black Hills Corp.’s stated values are Agility, Communication, Creating Value, Customer Service, Integrity, Leadership, Partnership, and Respect. The company’s Mission is “Improving Life With Energy.” Black Hills’ corporate Vision is to “be the energy partner of choice.”
