Dwight Wendell Riley, age 85, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Gerald and Florence (Schooley) Riley on February 24, 1928 near Packwood, Iowa in Jefferson County. He graduated from the Packwood High School and later attended Ottumwa Heights to further his education.

Dwight served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Navy. On October 18, 1952, He was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Scribner at the Eddyville Christian Church in Eddyville, Iowa. Dwight worked for many years at Iowa Southern Utilities at the Ottumwa, Iowa Power House and later in 1977 would move to Centerville and became the Safety Officer. He along with his brother, owned Riley Bro. Auction where he was an Auctioneer. He was a 50 year Mason and a member of Jackson Lodge #42 in Centerville, the Kahaba Shrine Temple in Davenport, Iowa, and Toastmasters International.

Dwight’s second passion was his love for the Appanoose Country Club where he was a member for over 30 years. He was President of the club three times and served many years on the Board. He played a major role in the construction of the automatic watering system. He logged many hours of volunteer time and for all he did for the club, it was decided to rename the road leading up to the club house, Dwight Riley Drive in his honor.

In death, Dwight rejoins his, parents; grandson, Nathan Riley; brothers, Mervin “Rex” Riley and Verlin Cloyce Riley.

He is survived by: his wife, Dorothy Riley of Centerville, Iowa; sons, Randell C. Riley and his wife, Cathleen of Springfield, Illinois and Anthony M. Riley and his wife, Becky of Olathe, Kansas; a daughter, Sandra Miller and her husband, Dave of Owensboro. Kentucky; brother, Dean Riley of Fairfield, Iowa; grandchildren, Beth Riley of Topeka, Kansas, Dawn Dorsey of Olathe, Kansas and Mackenzie Riley of Springfield, Illinois; along with two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with burial to follow at the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013 from 2 pm until 8 pm with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm and a Masonic Service at 7:30 at the funeral home.
