Ann Longobardi, Iowa Falls, will encourage guests at Opportunity Village’s Annual Meeting on Oct. 6 to “Come and Let Your Heart Soar Here!”
Longobardi, a Village volunteer and member of the Board of Directors, drives up to Clear Lake from Iowa Falls every Tuesday. “My heart is literally so full that on my drive home I think it’s going to burst,” she said. “I keep asking God why do I get to do this because I see constant acts of kindness, tenderness, not only with clients but with the staff as well.”
The 47th Annual Meeting of Opportunity Village will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Village’s Kinney-Lindstrom Center in Clear Lake. In addition to Longobardi’s presentation, the evening also includes a short business meeting, with election of directors, and a dinner.
This event also will include the last address by Chief Executive Director John Severtson, who plans to retire in May 2014. Severtson has worked at the Village for 30 years, serving as CEO since 2002. He also watched his father, the Rev. Murley Severtson, help build the original “Handicap Village” as one of the founders.
Nominees for the Board of Directors are Ann Beasley, Mason City; Mark Feustel, Mason City; Kathleen Koranda, Hanlontown; Susan Nagle, Clear Lake; and Marian Sanders, Alden. Each year (Oct. 1 to Sept. 30) the Village general membership elects five members to three-year terms on the Board.
The public is invited to attend the Annual Meeting. Anyone who fills out a registration slip and has contributed at least $5 is a voting member of the Village corporation.
