Jim Wessel
James Wessel, 72, passed away at his home on September 8, 2013. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Brooks South Town Chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens. His family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at the chapel.
Jim was born July 3, 1941 in Des Moines. He was united in marriage with Betty Russo in 1961. Jim retired from the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department. He was an excellent provider and caretaker for his family. Jim liked to work in the yard and could be found visiting Prairie Meadows. He enjoyed time with his family and telling stories to his grandchildren.
Jim is remembered by his children: Cindy Bingham, Tammy Wolver, Laura (TY) Coon, and Danny Wessel all of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Richard Wessel, Rodney Wessel, Joyce Wessel and Marvin Wessel. James was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Betty, in 2011; and his brothers, Roger Wessel and Tommy Wessel.
