Des Moines Art Center hosts gala with international flair

DES MOINES, IA (September 2013) – On Saturday evening, September 21, the
Des Moines Art Center is traveling around the world in celebration of international art, cuisine, and music at its annual fundraising event. This event supports the Art Center’s education, outreach, and free admission programs. And, for the first time, the Art Center will host an “après soirée” to keep the party going.

Throughout the evening, guests will experience the mysterious sounds of the Australian didgeridoo, classic Indian sitar, and West African drums while enjoying performances by dragon dancers and a colorful array of global entertainment. Guests may also learn Arabic calligraphy and Bollywood dance, and can opt for a henna tattoo.


6:30 pm – Cocktails in the Main Lobby
Internationally-themed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres
Distinguished guest: Former National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Jim Leach

8:00 pm – Dinner under the tent
Featuring a variety of global culinary entrées from Taste! To Go
Dancing to Parranderos – a 12-piece band featuring an array of Latin rhythms and musical styles from South America, the Caribbean, and New York City

10:00 pm – Après Soirée in the Main Lobby
European and South American street cart food
Dancing to DJ Nastanovich of Pavement and DJ Tone Zone
Libations from around the world
