Bud Pratt
Chester Warren “Bud” Pratt, age 86, of Grimes, IA, passed away Monday Sept. 2, 2013 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held October 6, 2013 at the Ankeny Funeral Home.
Bud was born July 22, 1927 in Topeka, KS to Chester and Leah (Turner) Pratt. He was a graduate of Wentworth Academy in Lexington, MO where he learned to be a pilot. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on his eighteenth birthday in 1945 and proudly served his country in Germany. After his discharge from the military he worked as a fireman on a steam engine and later as a firefighter at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka. He was a born salesman and retired in 1992 from Carpenter Uniform in Des Moines.
He married Patricia Golden in 1945. They later divorced. In 1966 he married Hazel Tally Welsh. She preceded him in death as did one step-son, John Spencer Welsh. He is survived by three daughters, Ielah Pratt of Apache Junction, AZ, Janice Pratt and Tracy Ostenberg, both of Colorado Springs, CO, two step-sons, Curtis (Bonnie) Welsh of St. Charles, IL and Kent (Julie) Welsh of West Des Moines, IA, three grandsons, four granddaughters, eight great grandchildren and special friend Doris Milligan.
Bud liked golf, traveling, genealogy and good wine. He was an active member of the Ankeny Community Theater for over forty years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gift be made to the Ankeny Community Theater, 1932 SW 3rd Street, Ankeny, IA 50023.
