Farewell to a busy summer

Posted September 04, 2013 in Community Featured, Perry

This summer was one of the busiest summers, not only for the Chamber but for the entire town of Perry.

We had an extremely successful RAGBRAI overnight stay, our Friday Fest events were great, and Fly Iowa was definitely something to see. All of these events would not have been possible without the support of the local residents and businesses. These are the types of events that really show how Perry as a community can come together to celebrate how great our town is and to showcase that to area visitors.

The Tuesday morning after the RAGBRAI overnight stay, when thousands of riders and support people were leaving town, I stood on the corner of First and Willis Avenue. Many of the committee chairs and volunteers were in low spirits that morning because the rain had put an end to our concert. The best thing I did was stand on that corner with our local police officers directing traffic and listen to how grateful the riders were for everything we, as a community, had done for them.

“Thanks for everything,” “You guys did great” and, of course, “Sorry about the rain” were just a few things that made me realize all the hours, meetings and effort put toward RAGBRAI was worth it. Our team executed the plan flawlessly. We got all the riders in and out in a safe manner, and hopefully they had some fun while they were here.

With the close of summer, comes the start of school. Make sure to slow down and look for kids on bicycles, skateboards and walking. The Chamber would like to welcome the new teachers this year. Welcome to Perry! Make yourself at home. We look forward to another exciting school year, and we’ll be supporting as many events as possible. Supporting our students in their academics and extracurricular activities with attendance and cheering  them on are great ways to sustain the quality of life and pride that we love about Perry. A successful school system makes for a successful business community. So show our students we are proud of all their hard work and that we are here for them. Go Bluejays!

Lunch and Learn
As part of a new series of Lunch and Learns the Chamber will be hosting, we are happy to bring Mike Wagner of the White Rabbit Group to La Poste on Sept. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. Wagner will be speaking on the “Power of Positive in Developing your Brand.” Check out his bio on Please make it a priority to attend this program.
