Agapé Christian Family Church will have its “Back to Church” Sunday on Sept. 8.

Eighty-two percent of the “unchurched” are at least somewhat likely to attend church if invited, yet only 2 percent of Christians ever invite someone to church. That statistic, as offered by the National Back to Church organization, is astounding and unfortunate.

There are plenty of reasons why people do not attend church every week. They often tell themselves “I don’t have time,” “I don’t feel welcome” or I feel out of place.” As a result of this nation-wide apprehension to commit time to a local church, a special day has been created to encourage everyone to give it a try. Release those apprehensions and attend National Back to Church Sunday on Sept. 15.

The movement was created to “invite everyone in America back to church by empowering and motivating church members to invite their family and friends to come with them to a special service hosted by the local church,” so goes the National Back to Church website www.backtochurch.com.

On that day, thousands of churches across the country will host a service to greet new, old and prospective members for a day of fellowship and special worship. In Clear Lake, Agapé Christian Family Church will host its own unique version of this Back to Church Sunday event on Sept. 8, welcoming all faiths and denominations through its doors, says Agapé Church Pastor Dave Toyne.

“This national event encourages church members to invite their family, friends and neighbors so that they can also experience what it’s like to experience a sense of family and camaraderie that a church family can provide,” Toyne said through an email. “Our church service at Agapé Christian Family Church will feature a carnival-like atmosphere complete with games, food and fun for the whole family. We will also be giving away an iPad during this event.”

The event will begin at the Agape’ Church at 10 a.m.; participants must be present to win the iPad.
