Heads-Up, Teens!
The teen program will continue with Tonja on the first Saturday each month.  See you on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2:30-4:00 pm!  Food is always a focal point of this program.  And we will be making plans for the year, so come to the Library with lots of ideas for fun-making.

Plant Swap at the Library, Sept. 14, 9:30 – 11:00 am
Are some of your perennials and bulbs needing to be divided?  Would you like to add some new & exciting plants to your garden – for free?  Do you have an obsession with gardening catalogs & need to share a few?  Come to the Plant Swap at the Library!  Bring your gardening magazines and catalogs to the Library during August & September.  On Sept. 14, please label and bring your plants, cuttings, and bulbs to the south side of the Library (outdoors), have a cup of coffee, and visit with other gardeners.  We will provide plastic bags to carry your treasures home.  Bring your plants at 8:30, start swapping at 9:30.  Happy dividing!

Preschool and Toddler Story-Times
Toddlers, ages 0-2, bring your parents to the Library for Toddler Tuesday, held year-round on Tuesdays, from 10:30 to approximately 11:00 am.  Parents or care-givers are required to attend along with their toddlers.  Preschool children, ages 3 and up, are always welcome at Story Time, held year-round on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 – 11:00 am.  Our children’s librarian, Ann Newbury (sometimes known as Mrs. Blueberry), makes it fun and interesting, while kids meet new friends and learn to participate in a group setting.  It is a great way to prepare for kindergarten.  No registration is required, and the programs are free and open to the public.

Two Book Discussion Groups
The Library is now the site of two Book Discussion Groups.  Please join one or both discussion groups in the Library Meeting Room.  They are free and open to the public – all are welcome!
·         The Tuesday Morning Book Discussion Group meets on the first Tuesday each month at 10:00 am.  Plan to attend on September 3 at 10:00 am – you will have a chance to talk about whatever book you are currently reading, and hear others tell about what they are reading

·          The Evening Book Discussion Group meets on the fourth Thursday evening at 7:00 pm.  On Sept. 26 at 7:00 pm, Bonnie Bass will lead a discussion of the Steven King book “11/22/63.”

Friends of the Library offers Used Book Sale, Sept. 5-7
The Autumn Book Sale will be held Sept. 5-7.  Donations will be accepted Sept. 3-6.  Your contributions may be gently used books, puzzles, music on CD, and movies on DVD.  We will have a silent auction for 4 antique wooden library chairs made from bent-wood.  They are definitely part of Winterset history!  Exclusive preview for Friends of the Library Members will be on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 4-7:00.  Friends may fill up to 5 bags with books for a cost of $10 per bag.  No boxes or scanners allowed.  And it’s time to renew memberships.  Not a Friend?  Not a problem!  Annual memberships are available for $5.  The book sale is open to the public on Friday, Sept. 6, from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 am to 3 pm.  For a free-will offering, all are welcomed to use provided bags to make your selections.  No boxes or scanners allowed.

Prep for Covered Bridge Festival at the Library – Start growing your beard!
The Library is holding a beard contest at the Festival this year, so start grooming those chin-whiskers.  We are also holding a bird-calling contest.  Our theme is all about Duck Dynasty, and there will be fun for all ages.  “Let ‘er rip, Tater Chip!”
