Steve Walters, age 63, of 2118 Tama Street, died at his home on August 20, 2013.
His body has been cremated. A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. His cremains will be buried in Boone Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
Family and friends are invited to the Boone Senior Citizens Center, 1112 Story Street, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for a time of fellowship and lunch.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
Robert Stephen Walters was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on December 21, 1949, the son of Robert and Lois (Phipps) Walters.
Steve graduated from Boone High School in 1969 and then served two tours of duty with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
On March 31, 1979, Steve married Margaret Liston in Boone. The couple later divorced.
In 1980, Steve began working as a brakeman/conductor for the Chicago Northwestern Railway and then as a conductor for the Union Pacific. He retired in 2010.
Steve enjoyed vegetable gardening, traveling, and having good times with family and friends.
In earlier years, he enjoyed canoeing, hiking in McHose Park, bike riding, and long philosophical conversations.
Steve was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by three daughters: Megan Sprecher of Ogden, Emily Bollinger and husband Lukas of Ames, and Amy Weber and husband Troy of Nevada; his mother Lois Walters of Denver, Colorado; three sisters: Charisse Cook and husband Larry of Boone, Denisse Furstenau and husband Mike of Lakewood, Colorado, and Cynthia Chalfant of Columbia, Missouri; five grandchildren: Deven Markley, Hailee Weber, Wyatt Sprecher, Jacelyn Sprecher, and Liston Bollinger; his former wife Margaret Liston of Ogden; and numerous other relatives.
