Dorothy Chambers, age 84, of the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford and formerly of Boone, died at the Center on August 18, 2013.
Her body has been cremated and a private family graveside service will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Algona on Saturday, August 24, 2013, with Elder Richard Lewis officiating. Burial will follow the service. There is no visitation.
Dorothy was born in Algona, Iowa, on March 11, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Butterfield) Lewis.
She graduated from Algona High School and on December 18, 1955, Dorothy married William ‘Bill’ Chambers in Panora.
In earlier years, Dorothy worked as a bank teller and later as a seamstress.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boone, the Chi Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and she planned and cooked meals for several years for the 11-60 Club at First Baptist Church.
Dorothy and Bill exhibited and sold home décor crafts in the Ames and Des Moines area including the Iowa State Fair, and they enjoyed dining out.
She enjoyed canning garden produce grown by her husband, knitting, and needlework.
Dorothy enjoyed collecting angel figurines and watching the ISU Cyclones football and basketball on TV.
Though the couple had no children, they chose to spoil and enjoy their nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother Robert Lewis, and sisters Inez Graham, Helen Batt, Phyllis Wiener, and Beverly Wegener.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law Doris Lewis; and a brother-in-law Gordon Wegener.
